There is a odd sound (very high pitched) under the central/passenger side portion of my dash. Its very hard to explain the sound but it is most like pressurized gas as it leaves a bottle and has a chimey/tinny sound. I hear it intermittently throughout my drive, generally occurs when rpm of engine increase (i.e I hit the gas pedal). I was originally thinking it was AC related but now I am concerned its air running through the heater core. Maybe its not a concern but I was curious what it is. Any thoughts?
the first steps to toubleshooting a noise are to first mute the stereo, then go around pushing on every piece of the dashboard you can find. even a single missing screw can cause a vibration that sounds scary like that. usually those aren't so high pitched, but start there anyway.
concerned its air running through the heater core - you mean on the water side of the air side? if you're concerned about it on the water side, check your coolant. it its full, it will bleed itself out as soon as you start the engine. if you're thinking the noise is from airflow over the heater core, you might start by pulling out the blower motor and looking for any debris in there like leaves or pine needles. also, see if turning the blower motor on/off has any change on your noise
