i just replaced the heater core on my 89f150 5.8L. it fixed the problem i was having but a few days after the repair it started making a funny noise. its a wierd noise coming from the passenger side floor board. where the heater core is. its running fine and it only makes this noise when i give it some gas, it doesn't do it at idle. under any sort of acceleration it makes the noise. what could this be?
no not really. i'm going to make sure it's completely topped off tomorrow. the sound is consistan with engine speed. higher engien speed = higher sound rate. it's a hard sound to describe. what did you have in mind with teh gushing noise?
Yea, mine started making a bubbling noise the other day on the passenger side floor. I live in Florida and it was our first day in the forties so it was the first time I used the heater. (got the truck 6 weeks ago) So I run the heater for a while and how do I bleed them off? My buddy suggested blowing out my heater core. Is that a big deal?
and when i've driven around for about 2 weeks using the heat and the bubble won't come out. what are my alternatives?
This will happen when you put the heater hoses on wrong. There was a Thread on this about a year ago in this Forum. You will also get little or no heat when they are on backwards but the hoses will be hot.
Ther's an anit-gurgling device that was probably in the old heater core hose. It's nothing more than a small mettle cup with a hole in it and it gets pushed into one of the hoses before you attach it to the heater core.
Most Ford parts counter guys don't know about it and will tell you it doesn't exist. Find the guy that knows about it and never talk to anybody but him again.
when changing a heater core, i always put the pressure line on the bottom of the core. this way the water will fill the core from bottom to top, and you will not get any bubbles. if you hook the pressure line to the top of the core, the water will just flow through it, and you can have air pockets that are almost impossible to get rid of. try reversing the hoses going into the core. you will not have to drain the radiator to do this cause the core is higher than the radiator. at most you will loose a pint of fluid.
the heater core on mine has side by side inlet/outlets. well at least the pipes are side by side on the unit. don't remember where each one runs too. i guess i'll be unhooking it and looking. so attach the lower one first and run the engine or just fill up the radiator until the uper port overflows?
the hose from the intake manifold should go to the passenger side port, and the hose from the water pump should go to the driver side port for a 5.8 liter engine.
