7.3 engine missing -- 2400 miles from home :(

Down in KS visiting family and this morning my truck started to sound a little rough when it was started.. let it warm up and drove it about 5 minutes, it just didnt seem the same as normal.. (thought it was still cold) so when I got to my destination, it had a very rough idle in stock and even worse in my econo80 mode. It sounded noisier on the drivers side. Got back to the camper, pulled the drivers side uvch connector (clip broke btw) and started the truck, sounded HORRIBLE.. plugged it back in and the miss is still there.

I did replace the oil (rotella T6) about 2 days ago.

I am thinking its an injector?

Can these be replaced one by one with stock injectors or need the whole set? (whole set is NOT in the budget until the spring)

Truck starts fine, but sounds rough and you can tell somethings not right.

The 50 cent mod was done last year.

I have AE but my laptop video card died on the way down so I am going to see about getting the loan of a laptop tomorrow, but would that show injector failures or just the buzz tests?

NO CEL lights came on.

Still using the origional CPS that came on the truck when I bought it used. Would A CPS do that or make it stall completely?

EDIT: Fuel pressure shows about 62 PSI and usually always stays around that area. Looked at external fuel filter the other day when doing oil and it was clean (6 months old). Truck has plenty of fuel in her. Worked great yesterday. Oil pressure on dash looks to be the same as always. Everything else seems normal, but the new miss and lower power. (sounds and feels like a V8 gas engine with a unplugged spark plug or two)

Thanks!

That's just the way mine acted when I lost driver side UVCH. Make sure the harness in the Vee is plugged into the valve cover.

You might have a burnt pin in the harness.

Where in Kansas are you?

Yes you can swap injectors one at a time stock.

Any oil in the ICP connector?

Located just outside Wichita (derby).

ICP connector? Never looked at it. Do you mean from having an oil leak?

Thanks

Wichita is only about 3.5 or so hours from me, was just up in argonia last weekend. Worst come to worst I could come up to help. I have some spare parts if you end up needing something.

Yeah, although generally you will get a SES light and have codes, a biased sensor from having oil in it will cause some rougher idle issues. I actually just changed mine today due to having oil in it.

Thanks for the offer

I will get this hooked up to my AE tomorrow and see what its showing. No lights came on though but something may be stored.

I may pull my drivers valve cover tomorrow and see if I can see anything and if nothing else, just test the injectors. I never did that before. If I recall correctly from reading once on here, you can have the engine running and one by one unplug them to see for the sound difference?

Thanks

Yes you can test to by unplugging them one at a time.

A buzz test may also be able to aid in pinpointing an issue, listen for a weak solenoid.

Also did you try unplugging the passenger's side? I know you said it sounded horrible with DS unplugged, but if it died when you unplugged the PS that would help pinpoint it to the DS too.

i still have clogged injectors after running numerous bottles of seafoam through it, even though i still think its good stuff. it didnt work for me . i hear that "hot shot" is the real deal though. have not tried it yet, its a little costly.

Never tried pass side yet. I will try that shortly and see what it does.

Tested the pass side.. ran about the same as when i had the drivers unplugged... maybe a little rougher..

oil level is at the top of the fiill mark on the add oil. bought 4 gallons and have about 1 qt left over.

next step is hooking up the ae tomorrow then maybe testing some injectors.

Thanks

Anyone familar with the testing service that fullforcedeiesel offers for $250?

I would send them my 8 injectors to get tested and could repair any problem ones? I emailed them, but may not hear until monday from them due to thanksgiving.

Thanks
