So as I was driving my truck from Alabama to Wisconsin last week, and then to Kansas this week. It became rather cold inside the truck. First issue was that my heater was very non-existant as I am running an 160' thermostat. Second issue is that my drivers side air vent is full of leaves and you cannot close it. My question: Does anyone have any tips for taking the vent cover off, as the parking break seems to cover the upper screw and looks to make it very difficult to remove. Also, is there anywhere to get a replacement vent cover. Mine is cracked and the handle of the vent itself is broken off. Ill have to post my travel story a little later.. it was a great trip with only a few issues...

No heat? Don't blame the 160 t/stat. I used the same t/stat in my '65 F100, heater worked fine for over 30 years.
The 1965/72 cable controlled heater water valve (C3UZ-18495-A) is spliced into the inlet-to-heater-core heater hose.
The little charmer is notorious for getting stuck in the closed or partially closed position. The good news is, it's available from Ford.

I don't think it is that hard to remove the parking brake. Release the tension, and then loosen four nuts on the firewall and like one or two bolts under the dash and swing it out of the way. C'mon. Give it the ol' college try.
IIRC, the vent gasket is the only repro piece.. otherwise, make a salvage yard trip unless ya wanna seek out the OEM pieces cited above. The vent assembly doesn't seem to be a highly sought after part given what I've noticed while window shopping at the man-mall.
I drilled a 1/2 hole in the top back corner of my bracket for access to the screw other ones i got with a offset screwdriver .
check ebay for the the vent i found one for $7.00 to put on my passengers side till i get my classic auto air .
There are 2 bolts under the hood and one under the dash and it will swing out of the way.The vent is the same or simalier to up to 79 so gives you more options.I bought new gasket kit for mine from Dennis Carpenter and redone mine.
The vent is the same or similar to up to 79 so gives you more options.
The vent is not the same for 1972's from serial number P20,001, not the same for 1973/79.
Later vent may fit, but it's not the same as 1967/71, some 1972's.
Took me 30 minutes to look up the part number, find out what it replaced, search for the obsolete parts, type the applications and the sources in post 2.
Then you come along (without a part catalog) and say different, probably in less than 60 seconds.
