Besides being pricey does anyone run a Barry Grant carb here? I'm looking at a Road Demon 625 for my Mustang which has a 780 Holley on it now and it's a little too much even thou it seems to work ok with the jetting like I have it now. I've heard nothing but good from others and I was wondering if any one here has heard or used one.
I've heard good and bad. They are just a modified copy of a Holley. I would use either and Edelbrock of a new Holley Street Avenger before I spent the extra money For a more aerodynamic looking Holley.

I've been running a Road Demon 635 on my 302 for about a year now. It's in a 70 F-100 w/ 9 to 1 compression, an E-303 roller cam, roller rockers, DUI (HEI) ignition w/ a C-4 trans.
It's the best carb. I've ever run. I replaced a Holley 600 c.f.m with it. Prior to buying the Demon I ran an Edelbrock Carb. (borrowed) to see if it was a good replacement for the Holley). I put the Holley back on before buying the Demon, the Edelbrock didn't impress me.
The Demon is more than just a modified copy of a Holley, I'd call it a refined version rather than a modified copy....
The Street Avenger owners that I've spoken to are NOT that impressed with them.
Unless you're buying the bare bones 600 cfm Holley or Edelbrock, the Demon doesn't cost that much more.
These are Summit's prices in round numbers:
Holley 4160 600cfm, electric choke $260
Edelbrock 600 cfm, electric choke $260
Holley 4150 (double-pumper) 650 cfm, electric choke $340
Holley Street Avenger 570 cfm $360
Road Demon 625 cfm with electric choke $340
I know several guys running Demons, and none of them has regretted buying the Demon carb.
What really sold me on the Demon is the carb dyno guys I've met who swear by them. I've been told it usually takes twice as many runs to get a Holley or Edelbrock "dialed in," if it can be done at all.
Of course, the guys who care about tuning their carbs like that can spend a lot more than the cost of the carb just to get it tuned, but the cost of carb tuning is small compared to the cost of rebuilding a high-performance engine to replace a custom forged piston with a hole in it.
