I painted my lariat chrome grill tux. Black to match the truck. Then put a black billet lower grille in. Goes really well. Paint supplies was about $75 and my step does paint and body so it was nothing for him to spray in an afternoon. 3 coats dark primer, 3 coats black and 2 clear. Came out perfect. We did the grille background primer black
I don't think it took me more than an hour from start to finish, and I was in NO hurry. It's a matter of covering EVERYTHING you DON'T want painted, shooting it, then after a bit of time, peeling off all the masking. The paint I used was SEM Trim Black. Google it, you'll find it. Believe me, it's way easier to do it my way than removing the grille, and there will be no overspray if everything is covered right.
easiest is to create an account at photobucket.com and and then once you upload pictures to it there will be site "code" for each picture that you can use in your posts here.
This will take some time.... IF I get around to it.
Meanwhile visualize a stock 2013 XLT grille with only the chrome border and center Ford emblem left alone and everything else semi-gloss black. It gives the effect of the emblem "floating" on a black background surrounded by a chrome frame or border. It looks GOOOOOD! ....especially on a dark blue truck with the "smoked" headlites (like the FX series) and taillights.
