My tachometer and the 12v key on wire I'm using for my Holley carb just died. There was a spark under the hood when I accidentally grounded them and now they're no go.
However, I've pulled every fuse in the block and they all look perfectly fine.
Does anyone know which fuse is specifically for the tach so I can just swap it out?
I'm looking at the fuse diagram in my 1980 owner's manual, and it doesn't specifically show a fuse for the tach. The closest thing I see is one for Instrument Panel, and it's supposed to be a pink 4amp at the upper right hand corner of the fuse panel.
Let me check my shop manuals and see what I can find.
Unfortunately, 1980 is a one year wonder, so my diagrams may be off from the 1981 diagrams.
That's what I was thinking on the schematic. They say things like, "instrument cluster", etc. but not specifically which one is the tach. The fact that the 12v key on choke wire quit too is really odd.
Tachometer is fuse position #18, it is a 15 Amp fuse (light blue) found on the drivers side bottom position. Not the one directly below the turn signal flasher, but the one below that one on the far drivers side.
It runs the seatbelt buzzer, warning indicators, EEC carburetor circuits, tachometer, choke heater, diesel indicators, and electronic fuel pump (7.5L).

Where do you get Position #18?
I show Position #2 for the fuse in that location, and there are only 17 positions possible.....
Thank you very much, I appreciate it.
That's exactly what I was looking for. Fuse #18 does a LOT, and I never would have guessed it with the label WRNG LPS.
The fuse was blown, but it was one of those ones you would have to have KNOWN it was blown to see it. It wasn't immediately obvious even after it was the only one I was looking at. Finally found where it'd barely separated. Swapped it out and it worked again.
My 1986 Tempo/Topaz EVTM has that same fuse box, Positions 2/3 are depicted slightly differently but that's OK, the overall numbering is maintained: 1986-tt-fusebox by ctubutis, on Flickr
EVTM = FoMoCo Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual for those who may not know
I never looked at an EVTM, my question last night came after I instead looked at the actual (1981) Bronco wiring diagrams: 1981-wiring-diagrams-fusebox by ctubutis, on Flickr
The actual wiring diagrams assign numbers somewhat differently, leading to my question.
My tach has not worked in a very long time, as soon as I read this I ran out to my garage to look at the fuse, and sure enough it was bad. I never knew there was a fuse for the tach, I have spent alot of time trying to figure out why it stopped working, I'm happy it was a simple fix, and also happy I saw this thread, thank you.
