You make the call

Well it has been several months since I last visited any of the diesel forms. I had my Ford loyalty challenged by Ford.
<O</O
Here is the story. My check engine light came on, and I pulled the code. It was a P0088. Rail pressure to high. Checked the forms, and discovered there was a TSB on this. It instructed the dealer to check for water, metal, etc. in the fuel system. If none was found, replace the HPFP with no cost to the owner.
<O</O
Took the truck to the dealer, checked for water etc in the system and found none.
<O</O
Here is where it gets interesting. The truck had 100756 miles on it. Yes, over the warranty by 756 miles. Quoted price to replace 3560.00. I agreed to have the pump replaced.
<O</O
Because I bought the truck and had it service several times at the dealer, I knew the service writer. He was familiar with the truck and reviewed the folder of maintance records I kept on the truck. He agreed that is was maintained well over Ford requirements.
He also agreed to request assistance from Ford for the bill.
<O</O
Several days latter an answer came back from Ford. Assistance denied. He gave me the email and response from Ford. The reason for the denial, a loyalty factor of 25.
<O</O
Loyalty factor 25 of 100???? WTF. I have owned Fords since 1966. I got $500.00 from Ford when I bought my Ranger, because I was considered a loyal Ford customer. I was a Ford mechanic in the sixties before being drafted. I raced the damn things in the 70’s
<O</O
I called Ford customer care for an answer. I explained the situation to the rep and asked how the customer loyalty factor number was made. He explained that is was preparatory information and could not be given out. He also explained that the service writer could be in trouble for giving me the email.
<O</O
Because the truck was out of warranty by 756 miles I was not expecting a full refund. Ford knew they had bad HPFP by the TSB. Hell 500.00 would have made me a happy camper. I have to admit, this kicked my a$$. Being 64 years old, not too much kicks my a$$, but this did. Customer loyalty? The title is a joke, if no explanation can be given of its meaning or how it is determined. Customer care? Are you serious? Call them and see if you agree you’re getting customer care.
<O</O
Just trying to go through some recovery here. Thanks
<O

Ouch, sorry to hear about the failure. I do have one comment though:

A TSB doesn't mean that the pumps are all bad. Just that the problem has been seen before and this helps techs adequately repair something without wasting lots of time with a diagnosis. There are dozens of TSBs that apply to my Excursion, but only very few of them have actually happened to my truck.

I'd love to know how they figure loyalty as well, and that would **** me off as well. Very curious to see if anyone else has some idea of how this is figured.

look up TSB 12-7-7. I don't have it anymore because of a new computer I didn't transfer that one over but I thought this TSB indicated just to do a reflash,,,that the HPFP is not necessarily bad.

I would almost bet yours was ok.

found it courtesy of Voleny:

This article supersedes TSB 11-4-22 to update the Service Procedure. ISSUE:

Some F-Super Duty 250-550 vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine may exhibit a lack of power concern with an intermittent DTC P0088; at full operating temperature during moderate to heavy acceleration. A calibration update is available to resolve this concern.
ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

Intermittent P0088 diagnostics:
  1. Check all continuous memory DTCs. Is DTC P0088 the only code present?
    1. No - this article does not apply, refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual to diagnose this concern.
    2. Yes - continue to Step 2
  2. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 79.05 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2012.5 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at Buy Motorcraft Parts Online | Official Motorcraft Auto Parts Site | FordParts.com.

I wonder if they really replaced the HPOP?

The p0088 is a too wide perameter by either the pressure control solenoid or the volume control solenoid mounted on the hpfp (neither are serviceable). The pump is a Navistar product. Do the reflash first (which widens the perameters). The flash is an effort to fix Navistar's screwup.

The flash was already performed. It was determined it was the pump.

The Tech bulletin said to replace the pump if no matter was found in the fuel system. I will try to get the TSB number.

Its 11-4-22. It very well could be a pump.
