I Have an 81 ford econoline that when the A C is on, water runs to the inside of the van. It drips on the passanger side down the by the fan. Water does run out under the hood through the drain and the ford mechanics have replace and cleaned the entire A C unit and it still leaks. Any suggestions Need some advice.
My van does the exact same thing. The water drips onto the passengers feet. I am very happy to hear that a low freon charge can cause this, I would not have guessed that. I have tried everything short of mounting a bucket to the floor!
It's probably just a plugged drain. It should run thru the firewall & drip out near the RF tire. They often plug with mildew from the moisture & dust. See if this site shows the details of the HVAC system.
Thank youu for your reply. Just had it to the delearship two days ago. It has a new condencing unit and compressor and they said it is full of freon. They also just took apart the drip pan and cleaned out the drain. This morining on the way to town, water appears dripping down the front of fan housing on passanger side. Ford mechanics are puzzled and don't know what to do. Otherwise the A C works great and cools very well. I have tried several Ford delearships in the area and also a local mechanic with no luck. Is there anywhre I could find a layout of the A C unit works on the internet so I can better understand where the water is coming from? Also, would it be possible to calk or block where is coming inside? Any suggestions would be appreciated
Did you look at the link in my previous post? I'd use "Tacky Tape" to seal that housing. It's used in construction for metal buildings and at schools to stick posters to the wall.
