I have a 93 F-250 7.3 non turbo with 73,000 miles on it. The truck belonged to my grandfather and had been sitting in a field for the past six years and had not been started during that time. I rescued this truck about a month ago and have only done some minor repairs to it: new glow plugs, new GP controller, 2 new batteries, oil change, new fuel filter, removed the rear tank and cleaned it and refilled it with fresh fuel. The truck now starts and runs good. The issue I have with it is once the truck comes up to normal temp. after the high idle kicks off it will start to miss, not all the time, it comes and goes as it idles. Also when the truck misses it causes a rattling noise in the transmission...the truck is a 5 speed by the way. If I hold the throttle down just a bit like 850 rpm or so it will not miss, and it doesnt miss on high idle or first started. It also has just a slight bit of blue smoke at idle. While driving there is no smoke at all that i can tell other than a little bit of black when i shift but i know thats normal, (unburnt fuel) Im just wondering If I have a injector problem or the IP, or air intrusion. Let me know what you guys think, Any help is greatly appreciated!
Probably injector related, take your fuel filter off, fill it with automatic transmission fluid and reinstall. Then start the truck and idle for 30 seconds, shut it off and let it sit overnight. The next day drive it like you stole and you can clean out most all the gunk.
