best programmer option

looking at the banks one, but am new to all this diesel stuff. figured until the warranty is up, i'll stick with a "map" that is made for efficiency, and not power. i ran the procomp/hypertech on the old silverado and adjusted the tranny to better match my driving style, as well as updated the tire size to keep the speedo/odo correct. anyhow, i'm only looking at the banks currently b/c i don't know of any other option... i'm sure there are some. also, i've done my reading, so i'm not really looking at changing the airbox/intake and/or exhaust any time soon.

what are you using, and do you like it? what kind of fuel mileage increase did you get? is it worth it? any other random thoughts/comment/compaints/suggestions?

TIA!

I don't have a programmer on mine and may not ever have one, but I kind of like the looks of the Edge Evolution. Edge Products| Product

There are a lot of people running the H&S performance products but the way I here it is that they have stopped shipping there product so if you want one now is the time.

I think I will go with the Edge CTS it is just a gauge and does not void the warranty.

i run the 6 gun in my 6.4. Banks put out some good products that are clean and keep the factory safeties.

You can also get the IQ to monitor all the stuff as well.

My only beef with Banks is that while I was shopping for tuner's, I asked if they would price match their distributor's and they told me no, the reason for the price difference is that they do not provide support for the products not bought directly through them. If I had any issues I would be forced to troubleshoot though the distributor.

even if it's a "plug up, change, unplug" kind?? if i put it back to stock before taking it in, how would anyone know? and who told you that it would void the warranty? by that logic, wouldn't installing an intake and/or exhaust void the warranty as well?

(not being argumentative... just curious)

Agg, My understanding is that this truck logs an event into the main comuter if you plug a tuner into the OBDII port. The dealer can read those events and see you've had a tuner installed.

That's why I'm waiting till my waranty is gone before tuning. I've got an Edge Insight now and it's nice to see what's really going on but there are times I wish those buttons functioned and allowed me to up the tune.

From manual of my 2012 f350

Some aftermarket products may cause severe engine/transmission
and/or exhaust system damage; refer to the Warranty Guide for more
information. Your vehicle’s powertrain control systems can detect
and store information about vehicle modifications that increase
horsepower and torque output such as whether or not
performance-enhancing powertrain components commonly referred
to as "performance chips" have been used. This information cannot
be erased and will stay in the system’s memory even if the
modification is removed. The information can be retrieved by Ford
Motor Company, Ford of Canada, and service and repair facilities
when servicing your vehicle. This information may be used to
determine if repairs will be covered by warranty.[/QUOTE]

I talked to my dealer, the parts guy anyway about adding a tuner and he told me the same thing about the computer logging the event. He did not say that it would void the warranty, but he did say he would not recommend adding a tuner. He didn't think that the Edge Insight was a problem though. I suppose if it came right down to it and depending on the dealer and on what failed you may still get some warranty but I would not count on it.

I have a friend that has a tuner on his 6.4l but he also good friends with the dealer he was told as long as he brings it back to them they would cover it. But what if he is half way across the country when something fails?

This has been by far the most controversial topic on here. Regardless of whether or not a tuner can be detected, its not ethical to obtain warranty work on something that YOU caused by modifying how the engine operates.

You gotta pay to play.

On the other hand, it truly does depend on how hard Ford wants to dig into the data logs. Certain tuners may not be "detected" directly, but the decreased frequency of regens, higher boost, fueling parameters outside of factory specs, varying EGT's and many more are all data logged and if those vary outside of Ford, spec, Ford will most likely deny your claim if they feel a tuner MIGHT have been installed.

Additionally, every time you re-flash your PCM, certain codes are stored which suggests a re-flash and unless you have documention that a dealer has performed work on the truck recently, you're burned.

Not worth it in my opinion unless you have the resources to fix your truck without a warranty. This truck has crazy power in my opinion at 17-18 mpg. What more mileage per gallon do you want. Its a 7k pound truck.I had my 7.3 tunes and this 6.7 beats it stock.Even if you get a couple more miles a gallon wheres the break even point? Sorry just dont see all the fuss to tune this truck.

i'm a mod guy... so i kinda just like to think and tinker. that's why i ride a fully built supersport 600cc bike instead of a stocker. granted, i'm good enough to know the difference, but still. haha.

for me, i guess until the warranty is gone, i'll stay stock. except the sound system. geez, this thing is horrible compared to what i'm used to.

thanks for the info y'all... i truly appreciate it, and hopefully no one got their panties in too much of a bunch during this thread.
