Sell two 7.3's for one 6.0?

First I would like to say thank you to the members of this forum. I have lurked for 13 years. Thanks for the help!
fficeffice" /><O></O>
The 7.3's
2000 Lariat crew cab. 265,000 miles. I bought it new.
Repairs: rear end within 75,000 miles - warrantee.
Starter
Water pump
Alternator
Transmission overhaul
Leather repaired on seats
Truck was stolen from driveway. After 10 days of sadness, found the 2002. Two days later
police found truck in a parking garage 5 miles from house. Door lock and ignition repaired.
<O></O>
2002 Lariat crew cab. 200,000 miles.
Repairs: injector cups
Injector
Painted bottom tan to look like my 2000.
<O></O>
2007 6.0 crew cab. 104,000 miles. Friends truck. Very clean.
Repairs: injectors - warrantee
Some type of cooler. Friend not sure. - warrantee.
<O></O>
I don't know much about the 6.0. Are they ok once the injectors are done? My assumption is the 6.0 would be quieter. Is the 6.0 as easy to work on as the 7.3? Can I put as many miles on the 6.0 as the 7.3? All I have ever read is the 7.3 is bulletproof and the 6.0 has injector problems. Is the 6.0 as easy to steal as the 7.3?

Thanks for your input,
Joe in Austin

Here's a list a friend just posted somewhere else (these are just parts BTW):
Here's a good list for bullet proofing a 6.0 and you can decide for your self.

Bullet proofing-
Head studs- $450
EGR delete- $285
Oil cooler- $350
Coolant filter- $125
Run 5w40 synthetic oil changed every 3k miles
Run Cat ELC coolant after a flush

Extra parts for a reliable 430hp-
Edge CTS with egt probe- $550
SCT with Matt Robinson's tuning- $490
Diamond Eye 4" exhaust- $285

They are both ridiculously easy to steal. The 'modified' 6.0 will not be legal to drive or sell anywhere with inspection that includes emissions - which could change in the future. With the same amount of $$, you can make more HP with the 7.3, but will likely need a trans sooner than the 6.0 at the same power level. The 7.3 is 'simpler' and in many ways easier to wrench on.

I am a die hard 7.3 fan myself, but I see some of the merits of the newer trucks. I have friends with the 'right mods' on 6.0's and frankly they run pretty darn good and seem to be holding up well. Offering this only because you've posted the question in about the most biased place I can think of to get an answer - perhaps there is a reason for that???

Let us know what ya decide!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you will live to regret the 6.0 decision.

EDIT: I have a friend that got a 6.0 a few of years ago used. After spending about $10,000 dollars on continuing repairs, traded it off after the last repair this year while it was still running right.

It is an o7, so if you do get it go to the dealer and see if it is still under warrinity. They will do the head studs for free if you buy them along with bullet proof egr cooler etc.. You have to buy the parts! After all that they last pretty well. Its not fun to have to wrench on them. The dealer pulls off the cab to make it easier. Let us know what you do.

Have you posted on the 6.0 forum? Might as well get their biased opinion also. I would love to have a later model less mileage truck, but too deep now! And as much as I hate working on mine sometimes, 6.0's look worse.

My brother bought a used 06 CCLB 6.0 automatic. He had it 3 months, it was in the shop 6 times under warranty while he had it.

I bought a 2000 CCLB 7.3 manual at the same time. I've had mine for 2.5 years and never had it in the shop. Just regular maintenance and a few mods done by me. Currently has 275,000 miles, starts and runs strong.

Going to a 6.0 is a bad decision unless you do the bulletproofing required. Then you have an even chance.

Keep your favorite 7.3 and sell the other one. Use the cash to upgrade the keeper.

I had a 6.0 for the last 4 years and I just sold it for a steel. They have a Terrible reputation. I spent alot of time in the 6.0 forum here. Every one is a crap shoot. Some will last 80,000 miles some will last 180,000 miles. The 6.0 is a pain to work on compared to the 7.3. Now the fact that it is an 07 is good the late 06's and the 07 had alot of changes made to make them a little more reliable. I had my 6.0 which was an 06 for 4 years and put 85,000 miles on it and never had it in the shop once. I feel I got pretty lucky because there are guys in the other forum that have had horror stories. The problem is when one problem happens on those motors it more than likely has a snowball effect. The eve cooler goes which then causes the headgaskets to go which then leads to oil cooler problems and possible hydorlock of the engine. If you do get the truck put aside a good 4-5 grand to bullet proof it, unless you think you can do the work your self. But to do head studs they generally pull the cab Off the truck. There is guys in the 6.0 forum that have done it in their drive way and it can be done but I don't thing it is something I would personally tackle. Like I said I took a huge hit on my truck did not get anywhere what it was worth. The dealers around me won't even take these trucks for a trade in because even ford knows these trucks can be a head ach. That is just something to keep in the back of your head if you do get it plan on keeping until it is dead.

Go figure, a bunch of people with zero actual 6.0 experience telling you about 6.0's. LOL

I am on my 5th 6.0. Hade three of them over 300k. Bought the 450 with 170k. None of them studded, egr deleted, or ever had a cooler replaced. EVER. Yes, I've fixed them, but no more then a 7.3.

Like I've said before, do your research. But leave the scared, inexperienced, and so on out of it...

I would have thought that too, but we have a 6.0 Excursion for our company car, and it is WAY louder than my 7.3.
