Will I kill my MPG?
Want real off road capabilities? start saving for these:
- Manual hub lockers: Our stock auto lockers are prone to dissengage at the most akward moments (like backing up on the mud). I run Mile Markers, but Warn and Superwinch make good products too.
- If you have an auto trans., then your should get a tranny cooler, these are cheap and will help your trans. when you're off-roading. Stack and plate is the style you want, and most folks seem happy with B&M's product (I will go this route), but the tech is quite simple, look for a product that looks solid and of good quality.
- Winch (minimum 9000lbs capability), Ramsey, Warn, Mile Marker, Engo, Superwinch... Research and make your pick. With this you might also need to install a second battery.
- Rear axle locker (ARB air locker or Eaton E-locker would be my choices, I wouldn't use any Detroit type mech. locker so I can control when it will engage). Since you're in there, getting heavier or protected differential caps would be neat.
- Limited slip front differential, since I can't remind any lockers for the TTB front axle, this should be the second best choice.
- Snorkel (any brand that fits and is water-tight will be nice).
- Water-tight distributor cap (most are, but you should check yours out).
Of all these items, the less critical ones are the diff. lockers and the snorkel. The winch is a must, it will save you out of any trouble the lockers could help you with and then some, and the snorkel isn't necessary if you won't ford deep water bodies.
