Needing to get some info on the V-10. Looking at buying a F-250 and have not decided on the PSD or V10. Trying to get the pros & cons of both. I am needing a truck that will be doing a fair amount of towing (The trailer will be in the 6700 to 10000 lb range, depending how many horses I haul) and need it to be a crew cab. I own a '94 F-250 with a 351 and have been VERY happy with it. It has been the best truck I have ever owned, but it is a regular cab and my family has grown.

V-10 or PSD? From what I've seen, it seems to be a matter of personal preference. The V-10 has power but the fuel economy leaves a little to be desired. The PSD has the power and fuel economy, but it's pricey. I would think either one would work for you. Just my $.02

I have owned both and have kind of setteled on the PSD. Now the nice little diesel rattle is music to my ears. As far as pulling I have passed several V10's but it may just be the drivers. This is my second PSD and it will probably not be my last if the good lord lets me stick around long enough for another. I think that I see a new 6.0 somewhere out there in the futher..hehehe.
Really its a matter of taste, me the diesel to others its the V10. but I am cheap, fuel economey does matter.

I am sort of biased, but i have a powerstroke and i love it.

pros for the v-10
cheap

cons
gets the worst gas milage ever(towing my 10K GN 6-8, 8-9 empty)

pros for the PSD
tons of power, ( i have a chip, but i can pull 10K over the grapevine at 65 if no big rigs get in my way)

great economy( i get 16 empty and 12 pulling 10k)

cons expensive initally

i am coming up on 100k on my truck so i figured it out, using current fuel prices $1.55 for diesel and 87 is at $1.72

my rough expendature to date is
9,685 in fuel getting 16

if i had a v-10
it would be 19,111 getting 9 mpg

quite a bit of change, when i bought my truck, slightly used, 20k it was only about 1500 more than the v10

If you're going to be doing a fair amount of towing the diesel will pay for itself a lot quicker. Go for the diesel, you won't regret it.
