Most V8's... 4 main bearings with 2 bolts, cast rods and pistons, low compression, higher rpm power. Some have 4 bolt mains stock, others with forged rods and pistons as well as other mods done to them, but most of them stock aren't what I'd want to play with.
The 300 inline-6... forged rods on ALL models, 4'' bore with a 3.98'' stroke, 255 lbs-ft of torque at 1400 rpm stock, 7 main crank bearings, cast pistons. HD models came with a forged crank but they're rare.
Put a COMP 260H cam in a 300 with a 390 to 600 CFM 4bbl and a set of shortie or long tube headers and you've got a motor that'll do just as well as a 460 does. Except for mud bogs/drags. This is producing right at or just over 200 horsepower and over 300 lbs of torque (closer to 320).
I find it funny everyone has to shove their foot in the throttle. With a 300, you can keep it at or below 2000 rpm and do everything you ever wanted to do. Need wheel speed? Change gears. With a 4-speed granny transmission and part time transfer case, you can change gears to go through whatever situation you want to go through, and you can manipulate the vehicle easily by playing with the clutch if you have too.
1st gear and 4-low = rocks, inclines, gulleys, stumps
2nd gear 4-low or 1st gear 2Hi or 4Hi = everything else.
EDIT:
Just to add, I've been doing work with my truck lately. With around half a ton of weight in the bed of my F150 and it squatting on the springs, 1st gear and 4-low it'll idle over stumps without touching the throttle. The limited slip in the rear is really nice as well. All you have to do is turn the steering wheel.
Let us know what motor you have, if it's a 351 of some sort, I wouldn't have any qualms about playing with it. A 400 would be a REALLY nice off road motor.
if someone can identify the type of motor i have that would be great thanks
Looks like a 302 and a C6 transmission. Bummer. Not a bad combo, but the 302 tends to struggle in trucks in stock form. I hope it's been built up a little past stock, other than an overbore.
BTW, your truck used to have the factory fog light option, which is one of the rarest options available for this body style of truck. Unfortunately, in 32 years of redneck modifications, they have disappeared.
Also, your seat and headliner are both aftermarket, however I'm glad to see that someone at least made the attempt at matching the color.

Bummer that's sad to hear. I was really hoping for a 351. Ok well I guess I better upgrade the headers huh? Really I only wanted the truck as a DD and occasional weekend play truck, carrying the rods or clubs.

Yeah I didn't take a picture of that but on the left on the steering wheel there is a fog light switch... maybe once i get my offroad lights i'll rewire to the switch to run those lights off them

Yea that fog light switch is how I knew that your truck used to have them.
