WOOPS

So something stupid I was doing bit me in a **** tonight, just thought I'd share. So I was being cheap and lazy on my new to me 89 and hadn't fixed the rigged battery cables yet. The previous owner had just connected the ground cables to the clamp bolt on some cheap cable ends. So today I go to start it, and it didn't wanna start. Was cranking and heard a pop then had very little juice. Pop the hood and I had melted the cable end where the bolt went through, woops.

ha ha ha its all good i kinda did the same but little different on that. in my new wiring harness i had to butt connect some wires and they were losing connection, and it was killing off my FSS so i took a spare wire and ran a lead to it from the battery. got home and turned off the key and forgot that i had that wire hooked up. Popped the hood and went to pulled the wire from the ip and it didnt come out so i went to pull it from the batt and when i did it sent a good spark out, and at that exact time it felt like someone just shot me with a 6 gauge shot gun. and a chunk of my battery about took my finger off. i was dazed and confused for about 20 mins tryin to make sense of how this happened lol

Uhm that's weird, nothing 12v should be able to do that, are you saying the battery exploded?

I was shocked real bad once with a high power maybe 100k volts or more racing ignition system, and it wasn't that bad, my heart skipped a few beats and I was on the ground for a couple min, woops. And I have been shocked by normal ignitions, like 40k volts, MANY times. These days I sometimes test the power of an ignition system by shocking myself with it, I have a tuned shock tester, hehe

BTDT opossum. in my 6cyl F250 i turned it off one day for just a minute and it didn't want to crank. i just held the key for about 5 seconds, then it cranked over but was weird. parked it at home and found that my terminal had melted down. that was using those "RV-style" terminals, the ones with the stud and the wingnut.

mikey, sounds like your starter solenoid stuck on, and that started your issue? i've seen that a few times, fortunately never on any of mine

im guessing that it didnt have enough fluid in the battery and it created fumes inside and leaked up out of the terminal< honestly dont know im blowing smoke out my ***> but it sounds bout right and the spark just ignited it.

Josh i went to try and start my truck when that one happened. all i heard was click and then nothing but i could hear a faint sizzle lol ( im laughing right now because of how much this sounds like bacon) and then i seen the smoke from the passenger side of the motor sliped under seen "slag" falling out of the starter and then the race began to unhook my posi side of the batts
