I have a 302 that currently has the dipstick on the left side of the engine. I want to put a chrome dipstick tube on the engine and have seen several images of 302's with the dipstick at the front of the engine. Anyone have any advice on maybe the repositioning of the dipstick tube from the side to the front?
Usually the engines that have front dipsticks are from Mustangs, T-Birds, etc.. They all have a front sump or dual sump pans. If you have a rear sump, you'll have to stick with the side stick, but if you are going to switch to one of the other pans, you can go to a front stick.
A question though, is the current dipstick through the pan or block?
As said above, you don't want a front dipstick. I have a front dipstick on the passenger side, going into the timing cover. The oil level varies too much, it has to be completely level to get an accurate reading. (If it is even accurate).
