Quick Question
My degas bottle always seems to retain a small amount of pressure, is that normal?
After my truck has sat all night, I can check the level and if I open the cap, the pressure vents off and the level will rise in the bottle. Again, is this normal or should I be worried?
Had the truck to the dealer and the bled the system for air and indicated the HGs are fine. Though I didn't recognize this "pressure situation" at the time, so we didn't discuss it.
With a long trip ahead, I may just be overly nervous, but wanted to see what you thought.
I always carry an extra fuel filter on board as well.
I would expect there is still some air in the system. Check it in the mornings when cold and when you stop for fuel just do a visual of the level and if it needs some then shut it down and add a little.
1. On trip out to CO., coolant / oil temps started fluctuating on my DashDaq and the heater heat went away. Took truck to Groove Ford in Denver (otherwise known as pompous a$$e$ and not mod friendly). Where they conveniently shook me down for $690 to replace both thermostats and the upper rad. hose. Truck ran fine for rest of trip to our elk camp and.....
2. On the return trip the coolant / oil temps started going up around Denver (again) so I limped it to Sterling Ford (Sterling CO) and they are putting in a new water pump under warranty. The job's not done yet, but so far I can't say enough good things about this dealership. They got me in right away, diagnosed the problem, and got the part coming in tomorrow, all under warranty. Very friendly (mod friendly) dealer that I would recommend.
Hopefully they only need to replace the water pump and I don't have any cavitation damage to the front cover. Some forums indicate cavitation is a common problem with the 6.4, but the dealer's tech and service manager indicated they haven't seen this as being common at all. Guess tomorrow will tell.
