I just got my block back from the machine shop last week. I got a 4.25 stroker kit from Eagle. Had the machine shop balance it. I've got almost all the pieces now. it will be 9.6:1 CR (I even had them CC the heads so I knew exactly what I'd have). Got a crane 941 cam, Performer RPM intake, Allum roller rockers, and a set of heads I ported out that flow 304CFM on the intake 208 exhaust. I'm hoping to make around 450-500HP & TQ.
I have a couple things left. For one, the oil pump. From what I hear, I need a bigger capacity oil pan to use a HV oil pump. which makes sense. The pan alone is $350!! is there any other way out??
I'm building fender exit headers. I started with 1 5/8" for a 351M and cut them up to fit an FE. That was before I was doing a 445 though. I think I need 1 7/8" at least now, so maybe get some 460 headers to cut up?? but those are like $450 for fender exit!!
I've been putting alot of thought into this engine, and WAY too much money. I need to make sure it's done right!
Sounds like you and I are building about the same engine.
I'm not sure about the hp I'll get but I really don't care.
I just want to have loads of torque.
I'm going to go with a regular volume oil pump.
My reasoning is based on the fact that this engine will not see any serious rpms and with some basic oil galley mods such as restrictors I'm thinking I'll have all the volume I need.
If you keep an eye out its possible to snag a "full sump" oil pan from the FT engines. It holds about 8-9qts of oil and can be had for around $75.
Why the fender well exits? IMHO I think they are horrid, but that's me. If your going through the hassle of building a set make a set of Tri-Y's and they will help with performance.
