Two questions here:
1) What was the largest engine (cubic inches) ever placed in a production car/pickup truck?
2) What was/is the fastest production car/truck (elapsed 1/4 mile time) unaltered stock from the factory?
.......Now I don't know about the first question , but I read in an old motortrend mag (don't remember date) about the 1968 L88 corvette with the 427 in it. They only sold 500 of them because it only came from the factory with a heater, nothing else. The elapse 1/4 mile time for the vette was 10.3 secs. The mag claims the vette was originally listed as having 425 hp, but in reality it was closer to 600 hp. Now I don't know about the rest of you but I 've never seen a car straight from the factory pull a 10.3 1/4 mile time!
Largest motor I know of in a CAR was the Ford 460, as for fastest, the new Cobra runs low 12s... don;t know about the high dollar foreighn cars, the McLaren probably has a really good 1/4 time
agains as for the motor, am sure some Trucks have larger, I mean a Semi probably has the largest producton motor on the street, and something along the lines of those extra huge dump trucks probably have the largest motor ina land vehicly, only surpassed by larger boat motors. those things are huge.
CRATE MOTOR! not installed in car inside of factory. and if you want the alrgest motor? I have seen a stroker over 700ci
but the quistion was for factory, the 502 was not factory, it is a stroker,
the 500 is factory. taht is whta I am goin with.
Also, the newer motor, i.e. IFE, anything without a carb, the ci is actually LESS that what the liters dictate, a 5.7 is no longer a 350, it is a 342 or what not, a 4.6 is not a 289, it is a 281 or some such. secondly, go to your search engine, type in 'conversion liter cubic inch' every sight will give you a number between 60 and 61.1 for the conversion.

The 8.1 litre is available in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and as a crate motor. You have to read the entire thread and put it all together. Exactly how short was the school bus you rode on?
The 8.1L Chev. is 496 cubic inches and is factory in the trucks and only a crate engine for BOATS. It can be ordered in the 2500 and 3500 trucks, factory, not crate. These engines are notorious for low mileage "noises" such as knocks. The 502 is a stroked out 454, if I remember correctly, (I have a neighbor who builds engines like that).
The Dodge V-10 is 8.0L which is 488 cubic inches.

We have a 70's F700 sitting in the back yard rusting away with a Ford 535 gasser based off of the 460.
The fastest production car right now is the Porsche Carrera GT. Forget the McLaren they don't make them any more. On the major scale the Viper is pretty quick.
I guess this one is for bobbyL. The fastest production truck is the Ford Lightning. Top speed is 140 MPH, the silverado SS has a sad top speed of 109 MPH. My source is the June 2003 Car and Driver magazine.
The Silverado SS is a poser, and I have a feeling the SSR will be a curvy poser. Oh well. I really liked Chevrolet right up until 1998. It seems they lost focus with the 99+ trucks. The Asian diesel, piston slappin gas engines, bad styling, bad durability. Pre 98 is pretty good though. Pre 87 is flat out awesome. Dodge seemed to lose it after 1993. The pre 93 Dodge 3/4 ton and 1 tons with the Cummins diesel were pretty good. Rare as hens teeth but good. Ford is the only one that seems to have held the course. Even then the half ton's feel like big sedans more than trucks. Can't find anything bad to say about the Super Duty or Lightning though. Ford seemed to nail both those concepts. I hope they don't go screwin up the Super Duty the next time around. I would like to see upper and lower control arms with coil springs on the 4x2 F-250. It'd be a heck of a lot easier to drop one. Other than that leave the mechanical bits alone!
