custom intake and mass air conversion

Hurray!
With the help of the people on this forum I managed to get my custom intake / mass-air conversion running!
Check out http://brembs.net/cars/maf_conversion
It runs like a raped moneky now! Crazy how much more power it seems to have! SOTP feeling is amazing. A few tweaks remain, though:
1. I don't get any check engine light at all, when I try to check the codes. It doesn't even come on when I turn the ignition before starting her up (but I checked the bulb). Has anyone had that before?
2. I gotta find that vacuum leak
3. Oil gauge reads all the way to the right. What size resistor do I need to solder in there (or what else may be the problem)?

Must I be the first one here to say congrats! That looks great! I love the idea of the painted intake and I think that I will do that to mine now.

The Lightning intake is definatley a neat idea to get rid of the dual intake setup. I assume that it would install in a stock 88 intake with that plate that you fabricated?

Yes, the 96 intake is only marginally different from the 88 (basically it has the hole for the PCV in the middle of the plenum instead on the end - that way the fumes go in all cylinders, not only in #8). Just make sure you fix the price with your machine shop. Mine quoted me $200-250 before and then charged me $350 !!

Any ideas to the check-engine light problem or the oil pressure?

If the light and guage worked great before the swap I would lean towards grounds. Do a check on all of the grounds and then if that doesnt fix it you can test the sensor with an ohm meter. I'm not sure what it is supposed to read but I've seen it done before.

Is there a lead that comes from the computer to the check engine light. Can you back probe that lead?

Yeah, I'll double check all grounds (there are three). If that doesn't do anything, I'll have to take some of the wiring harness apart again, to see if there are some shorted wires in there. That would be a major PITA! I'll post on the website any solutions I find.
Thanks for all the kind words about my project!

bjoern,

I was wondering if you still have the EEC from the speed density? I have a 1991 F150 5 speed that is having some EEC trouble and would like to replace it and or have a spare one.

My trouble is that one bank of injectors shorts out or something and they stay open flooding those cylinders out. My only fix for this is to unplugg the EEC then plug it back in. After that it works fine again. Got me what it is? I did notice a small electrical burnt smell when I pulled the EEC so I am thinking that it is most likely on its way out.

Sweet job bjoern!

Just curious, did the injectors your selling come off a 302? I'm needing to replace the ones on my '89 F-150 302. I'm interested.

I had it until this morning. I read my email before I went to this board, and there was an email of someone who wanted it, so I sold it to him. My bad! I should've looked in here, before I sold anything and then have you outbid each other

>Got me what it is?

I understand your problem, but I can't say first hand what is wrong. The circuit posted on my webpage tells you where to look for shorts in the wiring harness. It may well be that the wiggeling while taking the computer out may cause the short to temporarily go away.
You can also open the computer and look for obviously bad components.

Good luck!

Yes. They're the orange 19lbs injectors, a full set of 8 with the original O-rings. I bought them with the intake manifold. The guys I bought the combo from, said the 1996 had only 27k miles on it.

What do you think they're worth?

Is there a difference between batch fire and sequential fire injectors?

I only have batch s/d so I may be out of luck.

Just wondering why you didnt go with a mustang intake to fix your single T-body dillema? It would have been alot cheaper from what I have seen. I assume there must be some reason you opted for the truck intake over the mustang.

I can't speak for him but I assume it's because of two different reasons. 1. The truck intakes actually flow better than the mustangs (for torque not horsepower) and 2. the mustang intake is positioned quite different causeing throttle compatibility/TV cable problems along with other problems.
