Help! Here I sit in a parking lot and no start. Ran fine until I got coffee. I have checked the basics and tried disconnecting the hpop sensor. I am showing low ICP with engine cranking on my scanner. Why would it drop out so fast? Is there a way to force it high? I recall the similar system on CAT heavy diesels had a plug you could insert to force the injection pressure high. Or is there something that would cause it to fall off to nothing while I got coffee? It is raining if water could be an issue.
Lets start with mileage, year model, and what oil and filter you're running, and YES it can happen that quick but not because of water. Also, what is your ICP pressure. It takes about 500+ to start the truck.
Year is '06 F-450 6.0 180,000 miles Delo 15-40. I am not sure of the pressure. The scanner only says too low while cranking. Code P2291. I am having some issues with the scanner at the moment. It will not keep the connection while cranking and would not when in motion a few days ago when I was trying to make a recording.
I have not had anything off of the hpop but history is an unknown. Yes I did disconnect the sensor for the hpop. I am looking at the data from the scanner. It says the cam and crank sensors are not in sync. I guess I need to address that first.
p2291 Injector Control Pressure Too Low - Engine Cranking. The SCT fitting will cause this when hot or operating temp. It sometimes will start when cold.
You can get a warranty history report from a Ford dealer. This will show what was done under warranty, most times 100k miles. That was how I found about mine, it was done at about 60k miles(SCT fitting). I was very concerned until I received that report.
I want to thank all of you for your help. What a great group. I ran out of time and had the truck towed to the dealer in the town it died in and came home. When I get it back I will let everyone know what happened.
Also wanted to ask what the SCT fitting is. I could not find it anywhere in the acronyms lists.
It is the fitting on the discharge of the HPOP. The 05 and up connection is weak. Also in these year modles there is an upgrade to standpipes and dummy plugs (also fittings in the High Pressure Oil, acronym HPO, system).

Hi to everyone. The dealer says they want to replace the pump connector (STC?) and update the IPR. A bit less than $1000 parts and labor. I can't get the truck out of there and tow it home for less than $600 or so as it weighs 14,000 and my poor '97 F250 would never forgive me if I used it for the job. Not to mention it would be dangerous I would have to fabricate a tow bar first. So I guess I will authorize the repair.
Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Interesting that yours lasted 180k miles, most fail before 100k miles. Good thing is the replacement fitting is an upgrade part and should not give you any problems. I am not sure what an updated IPR is, maybe a new IPR with a new screen. I think they go for $170 or so just for the IPR.
Hi again,
Was supposed to get the truck today but they put it together and still no start. So now they say the low pressure pump is trashed. Seems like they would have noticed that the first time they looked at it. Maybe not. At any rate I am supposed to get it before noon tomorrow for $2200. Ouch this truck is getting expensive!
