01 ranger has no reverse

01 ranger has no reverse
I backed outta my driveway heard a loud clunking sound, got out to see what i ran over and nothing was there, got back in, backed up went to work, even backed up there, went home next day no reverse, it acts like neutral, all forward gears work perfect, changed oil and filter still nothing, what could it be
