I've been having some shuddering on take off in second and reverse and am thinking my clutch is giving. If I'm going to have the clutch rebuilt, I was thinking about rebuilding the transmission while it's out. I have no idea how many miles are on the 4 speed. I would love to be able to afford a ranger gear or similar overdrive type unit since I do a lot of highway driving, but the extra $1500 or so is not in the budget.
My question is, are there any performance parts that can be used during the rebuild? May be a stupid question, but I know very little about transmissions. I figured since it's going to be rebuilt, why not spend a few extra dollars on better parts. How about the clutch? Any suggestions? If yes, where can I find these parts? Thanks.
Oh, transmission is on my '78 F150 Ranger 4x4 with built 400. I believe gearing is 3.73. 31" tires.

There might be, but there is no need to. The 435 is bullet proof. They easily stand up to built 460.
