Have 99 with 217,000(7.3) 0riginal owner. Changed injectors and glow plugs, also Stancor GPR(White Rogers) from Mouser $55.00 delivered. Ran good and then like a switch, won't start, cranks and sounds at first O.K. then like no fuel? Called mechanic today and said sounded like fuel pump on the rail under drivers side? Bought one today in town, 70 miles away. Have not tried as yet, looking for any advice, please. Dave
Thanks for info, off hand, do you know the fuse number? Under hood or fuse panel inside? Would the blown fuse stop it from starting?? When we did the injectors, the valve cover gaskets and wiring were changed too. With 217,000 I thought if we were in there do the glow plugs too. Been some cold here but not bad and have been reading so that is when I changed the GPR to the Stancor one, as you know, lots of difference in size and weight. Started fine but not cold as before. I pulled trailer to get load of water, about 10,000 lbs and pulled fine and went to pull out and that is when it acted funny. My mechanic said to pull my chip out of PCM(to rule it out I guess). A DP Tuner. Did same thing. As stated before, acted like fuel? For all I know. Dave

Have you tried removing you chip?
Did the truck die while running or was it running fine before and now it just won't start? Does your WTS light come on? Is there any smoke while cranking?
Yes, Wait to start Light does come on like normal and buzzs and then goes off. I have changed the CPS several times and carry a spare. Did not try this time. Almost acts like it wants to Romp, then quits, like I mentioned, no fuel? Thanks for input. Dave

I would see if the fuel bowl is full. Also check the IPR connector and tin nut that is supposed to be holding the coil securely.
Not to sound dumb, Where and what is the IPR and the tin nut and coil ?? Fuel Bowl, just take cover off where fuel filter goes and check? Will check and but oil should be good. One thing, when I fix this, I will report back, what the solution was or is. The mechanic I mentioned is supposed to be good and after I describded what happened, first thing he mentioned the fuel deal on the rail under drivers side. Tried to get one at O Rieley's and guy thought I was crazy, took awhile. So what exactly do they call that?? Fuel transfer pump? Thanks again you guys that are responding. This is why I send the money in to FTE, besides for the T Shirt. Dave
DO NOT TAKE YOUR FUEL FILTER COVER OFF unless you have a replacement oring to reinstall on the fuel bowl lid. The ULSD is really bad on the gaskets and the gasket will swell up when the air hits it and it will not seal back properly. It will leak really bad. There is a small yellow arm which is a valve operator to drain the fuel bowl on the back of the fuel bowl. The drain, when opened, goes to a steel tube that runs under the engine. To open the valve operate the valve 90 degrees. You can just push it with one finger. If you open the valve you will see where the fuel is draining to. You can hook up a piece of 3/8 fuel tube about 14-18 inches long so you can catch the fuel so it does not hit the ground or leak all over your concrete. If there is no water in the fuel as viewed in your catch can then you can dump it back into your tank. A big plus at 4$/gallon.
Have an assistant turn the key to ON (without trying to crank) while you open the valve and observe how much fuel comes out and goes into your catch can. How much goes in the can over what period of time? I do not have the gallon per minute rate.
If you have the wait to start and you can hear the fuel pump running with the key ON then fuse #30 should still be good and the PCM is powering up just fine.
