go easy on me

hey guys, anyone care to help me with a 3rd grade level checklist on how to troubleshoot a motorcraft 2 barrel that always has the throttle (edit:choke) plate open.

i can fire it up, give a bit of gas and once its it gets cooking will idle just fine and dandy.

as soon as i give it some juice though i get stumbles, stalls, misses, etc.

once the truck is fully warmed up it seems to run pretty damn good.

is this because the throttle (edit:choke) plate is always open? i mean always! when i come out in the morning i can take of the air cleaner and the butterfly (edit: choke plate) is open. will this cause rough running until warm?

how do i get it to close and function properly?

I'll go easy on you on one condition. Google Autolite 2100 carb and at the very least get familiar with the names of the parts you are describing.

Okay, the throttle plates/butterflies are on the bottom of the carb, you are talking about the choke plate (which is on top).

Currently your choke is not working, thus when cold the air/fuel mixture isn't ideal for cold starting/running.

Few suggestions to solve the problem:
1. Get the choke working and set properly, this should help you cold starts.
2. Let the car warm up after you start it. I never have, and really don't see the need to use a choke (of course I live in the deep south, where cold, isn't really all that cold).

Good luck!

ohh and in case you can't figure that whole google thing out:

one of the easiest carbs to rebuild, and last time I bought a kit it was $14 or something crazy. Really much easier than a holley for a beginner as you have very few places where fuel can leak.

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech..._2150_carb.pdf That link has a nice section on choke settings.

later!
