Haha nice Chris! Good to see that truck just mowing down the miles. I've stuft the Boss 302 in the garage and have driven my truck the 60 miles every day for the last couple months. Even hitting the high 16's in MPG after a decade at less than 15. Love that T500. I'm almost at 300,000 on mine. Hard to believe its coming up on 14 years!
I don't think so. I've always used the Motorcraft FL-1995 filter that costs around $10. Here's a link to the thread when I had Blackstone laboratories do an analysis on my used motor oil to help determine how the engine was holding up using the oil and filters I typically use.
You can read their comments on the report from when my truck just turned 400,000 miles. They don't seem to be concerned with my oil filter choice, but I don't know how many more miles you're trying to get out of your engine than me. Myself, I'll just stick with the Motorcraft filter.
If that isn't enough experience and testimony about how good of a filter the $10 FL-1995 is, what more would anyone want to know?
Motorcraft FL-1995 for me also. Run motorcraft FL-820S on the wife's expedition too. Which is nice for here truck because I have the right filter socket that fits on the end. Which the Powerstroke filter had it too.
I don't run anything but Motorcraft, Baldwin, or WIX in any Ford I own or have owned. The 351W in my old F150 got a fram once out of necessity (something on the road punched a hole in the filter on the highway and it was all I could find) and it knocked every cold startup until I threw it away and installed a WIX. I remember seeing in the oil filter comparison that Purolator were good and appeared to be made by the same manufacturer as Motorcraft, not sure if that has changed.
If I care about my engine enough to change the oil in it....I care about it enough to NOT use a Fram filter on it. Fram filters are the worst on the market. It is amazing how many say they use a Fram because they like the easy grip coating on the bottom...............like that should have anything to do with why you choose a filter for your engine? DUH
Ive always used Motorcraft on my Ford. When I was in high school my best friends dad was a Ford Master Mechanic who worked at the proving grounds in Romeo, Michigan and he said to always use a Motorcraft oil filter on any Ford I ever own. Not really sure why but I just decided to listen to him. Never had any problems.
On the Wifes Jeep Ill go with a Wix and when that is not available than Mobil 1 (They are expensive). Both of them seem to do fine with the 4.7L.
Im using the Mobil 1 601 Extended Performance. I came across a deal online for 12 of them for like $90. They have synthetic media, so they are supposed to filter better, with higher capacity and flow. They are supposed to last longer too, which is important if you are running extended intervals. I go 8k between changes. They usually run $12.99 in auto parts stores, not sold at wal-mart, but they go on sale for 9.99 from time to time. I personally think its the best filter out there. Some have reported them leaking, and they will if you dont tighten them a full 1.5 turns past contact, just like it says on the filter.
X2 for the Mobil 1 601 - My oil analysis results @ 7500mi (for my 00) came back slightly better than the FL-1995 (not by much). Added a bypass oil filter a little over a yr ago and always use a Baldwin B164 in tandem w/ either the Mobil Filter or a Bosch Extended life filter. Since I only change oil about every 8-9 months filters are a huge deal. Filter's are definitely not the area to cut costs in. All of of trucks now have the same setup as the 00 except the 6.4L.

I just received my Donaldson ELF 7405, ordered Thur and Fed Ex here today. I thought I put standard shipping, 7.95, total was 31.87 from Ryder Fleet Products. I am planning on extending changes to at least 10k, more if Blackstone says okay.
Otherwise Motorcraft gets used.
