My 92 XLT's drivers window no longer go's up.I found this out the other morning during a thunder storm. It acts like the gears striped. If I grab the glass with pliers I can run it up. Thanks SAV
OK, so I assume you're asking how to fix it? Take the screws out of the door panel. The panel has plastic push pins holding it on, so you have to carefully pull the panel off. Once you have it off, you'll have to gently remove the plastic barrier if it's still on, and have a look at the system. You should lubricate the arm and other moving parts with some good spray lubricant. Once inside, you can have a look at what the problem could be.

As long as the motor will run-(you are probably getting a click-click-click)as it trys to go up, if this is the case you just need whats called a "gear kit" they run about $14.00 at chain parts stores on the "Help" rack, you need to remove the motor itself, then remove the back plate on it & you will find inside a real mess of broken plastic and grease, just scrape it all out well, then put in your new gear, pack with grease re-install the plate & re-install motor back into the door.
ditto---exact same prob. w/my '91. I had to drill out the rivets and replace w/ SHORT 1/4-20 bolts w/self locking nuts. Be SURE if you use bolts instead of rivets, that the bolts don't get in the way of the arm. Check travel up and down before putting the panel back on. p.s. I could not physically get to one of the bottom ones. So I just left it off. (3 inplace of 4 will work)........
I replaced mine this weekend. Very straight forward once I got the stainless rivets drilled out. Once inside the gears were fine. I replaced the teflon ***** that absorb the torque from the motor and put the whole thing back in the door. Total time two hours. BTW I got the teflon ***** free from Advance Auto parts. He pulled them from a defective gear and gave them to me gratis.
