i have a 94-96 351w with e5ae 289 heads, im using 750cc carb, flat top nylen pistons, stock exhaust, mallory duel points distributer any ideas on a great truck cam i can go either roller or flat tappet ???
Ahh... no you don't, E5AE represents a 1985 casting and the last year for the 289 was 1968, and besides that any 289 head will completely strangle this displacement so lets hope that's not what you have.

man.. I don't want to be too critical but that's got to be the worst combination of parts possible, are you just trying to produce a functional engine with what you got on hand? If so I say don't waste a dime on a cam just run what's in the block.

Nylon pistons ? As with what Conanski said, E5AE heads are not 289 heads. They're the "generic 302/351 head used in 1985. The dual point distributor is obsolete and for all intents and purposes today............quite useless. (unless someone pops a nuke in the atmosphere)
these are 68 heads small chamber etc, the piston company that made the pistons are out of business, i was asking about cam selection if you don't know say so if you don't have a clue how to build torque on a budget stick with your corolla
The date code E5AE says it's 1985. Are you sure the code was not C5AE?
In any case, it's like Conanski says, the heads for the smaller engine would choke the 351, no matter what cam you used. Having said that, I note that in late 70s-early 80s that both the (non-HO) 302 and 351 used the same choking heads with the tiny valves.
OP,didn't you post a similar question in the 80-86 truck section? You posted under the user name mortonhydraulics. You insulted the people who were trying to help in that section as well. Not the best way to get helpful info.Conanski and baddad457 have a lot of knowledge about SBFs.Were you referring to Adam Corolla?
He cannot ask for advice on a cam without first telling us what his comp ratio is. If he's got flat tops in a 351W, combined with 54 cc 289 heads, then he's not going to be able to use a cam that increases the dynamic compression ratio. and still hope to run it on low octane pump gas. Too many "unknowns" here.
