Have you tried felt stripping? Between braces and sheet metal. Like Ford did under the hood.

A roll of foam rubber weather stripping from your local hardware store would work. The one sided sticky stuff. Stuff some strips in-between the stiffener/support and the roof.
Tip: don't peel backing off sticky side until the foam in place.

Shrinking metal is and art that I could never master.

Most of these guns have a shrinking tip with them. I have one similar to this that I used to take the oil can effect out of my roof. I bet that I had at least 100 shrinks in it to get the roof tightened up. After you heat it, cool it off with a damp rag immediately to make it shrink.

Im having a similar issue with the side of truck box. Ive seen guys use a torch with a welding tip on it. How big of an area did you heat up with the stud gun?
