Hey guys I asked this in the bullnose section but I think theres a stink bout DTs over there. I wanted to do a Cummins swap but after doin an engine swap search I discovered the exhistance of the DT360 and would prefere to keep IH then betray my loyalty. My search has yelded that the 2 engines produce similar power with similar mods and the swap cost will be roughly the same. The differences are in weight and length and rebuildability. So my question is who has personal experiance with the DT360 in buses or trucks and what kind of quirks should I expect in the long run like fuel mileage and such.
Bullnose section?
The main downfall of the DT is that it didnt come with the famous P-pump like the Cummins. There are adapters to put one on if you want. The MW pump isnt too terrible for performance, just not ideal.
80-86 era truck section. The DT came with an a or p-pump in 93. And im not lookin for 1000hp, all id do is turn up the pump a hair, new injectors and a "better" (not really bigger) turbo. So roughly mid 300s to low 4s would be the most. My truck will be used for haulin campers round mostly. Will be either a slide in camper I take in the mountains or a 5ver ill take all over north america. So fuel milage and reliability are at the top of my list.
I knew that ******* name would never take anywhere other than the 80-86 section....either way it should be a fun truck and look forward to a build thread on it.
That was my first hunch about the bullnose.
I have yet to see a 360 with a P-pump. All I ever see, read, or hear about is either an A or an MW(very similar to a P3000). Run the numbers to be sure
I think the Ps were most commonly on the DT466. So runnin a P instead of an A or MW wouldnt be much of a challenge. Ill be most likely runnin a zf behind it or at least a np5600, so ill also want to look into the eventuallity of a gearvenders to help save the tranny. Realizin that the 360 weighs 1200lbs ill need to do a d60 swap. Even if I ran a Cummins id wanna do that for the 37s. I also realize I should find a local machinist to manufacture the needed adapters. Im thinkin the dodge intercooler or first gen stroke intercooler as those are the most common and best fittin units.

I completely understand, but Ford used Cummins in the bigger trucks. That was my reasoning for planning my Cummins swap.
I realize that. Yet my moms first car was a 57 IH 3/4 ton, that we plan on restorin soon. So its not just the Ford/IH thing but a family thing. An update as far as this project goes, the 85 got traded for an 01 7.3 cclb. A good temp truck till I can get another 80s supercab.
Revivin the old thread. The 01 didnt pan out, the guy went to jail for fraudin th Army. Ill be deployin again in Jan, be my chance to fund my build. My basic plan right now is buy a 99-03 powerstroke 4x4 f350 zf6 for the drivetrain. Ill box in my 85s frame run SD F350 suspension and axles.Talk to Carson Stauffer bout a P pump conversion and trans adapters for the DT360. I figure with the new trans and suspension this swap should come out to $15k before I even touch the body.
