Just got home from the rust proofing place, they couldn't finish my X it was too heavy for their lift. Apparently it is a 9000# lift and they are going to have it serviced and call me when it will be able to lift my X. It made me laugh, I told them when I come back I'll try and have an empty tank. It had no problem with the F-250 behind me though. I think it was just intimidated the the greatness of the X
The other week I had some shocks installed, and I noticed they put it on a special lift platform that was different from the other ten lifts at Pep Boys. Kinda funny.

That is exactly what happened to me when I changed my spring on the X. The lift was in use putting in a transfer case in an '08 Super Duty, so it turned out easier on the floor. Then I had a 'popping' the next day and took it back by the shop to check on it, that same lift would not lift my X over waist high off the floor. It only went up to the first lock!!! I crawled underneath and had forgotten to torque the left front's rear bolt. My buddy was really shocked that the lift would not pick up the X, but took the newer Super Duty all the way up. And, get this, it was a brand new 10k lift put in the week before.
I am on the third set of those little red drive up ramps. I flattened the first 2 sets but I get them at garage sales for $5.
Autozone (and probably others) have a 10k lb set of "rubber-ized"
ramps that I bought on sale for $39 (maybe $49) soon after I bought
the Ex. And I bought a 3.5 ton floor jack and 6 ton stands
@ Northern Tools to go with my 2 ton jack from sears from 20 years ago,
- which I now use on the axle/wheel when I need a 2nd lift.
I now lift up the front-end from the crash-bar, put the jack stands on the
crash-bar for safety, remove the tire, and lower it using the 2-ton jack.
Makes it nice and safe to work on sway bar, shocks, springs, etc.
You don't want to be under there UNLESS you have the right stuff.

The ramps shown in the first picture have a wider flange on the sides and they hold fine. They flatten when driving up when the do and I can always put a brick under them like Jmatthews does. I can always slip a jackstand or 2 under there also.
