The shifter is suspended in two plastic bushings. I believe I got some replacement pieces at my local Ford dealer for a reasonable price, although I can't remember how much.
I believe the transmissions are within a half inch of each other in overall length, so you should be able to use your original driveshaft.
I always seem to just miss all the great deals in the yards around here. This spring I happened to get to the yard just as a couple guys started pulling a 7.3 powerstroke. Since the local yards charge only by the number of cylinders an engine has, they scored the complete motor for a measly $143

The answer to the question about the driveshaft depends on if the truck is 4x2 or 4x4.
