Doing a little work on the truck and went to check and adjust timing. I loosened the nut holding the dist. down, and can not move dist in either direction. Taped on a purchase point with a wooden block and hamer, still not moving. Not sure weather to put rust blaster in the joint or what.
Jim,
Wow, I've never heard of that happening before. I can see how it could happen though. I'd give the penetrating oil a shot. Let it sit for a while and then try tapping on it again.
Either that or leave it alone (depending on where the timing is at).....lol
Same problem I had when I got my 56 F100 w/351W as it had been sitting for a long time..wouldn't budge in either direction. I finally sprayed the hell out of the shaft for several days with PB Blaster and used an oil filter removal tool around the base of the distrib. and kept working in both directions until it finally freed up. No damage to the distrib resulted..but, it pretty much ruined the tool.
Good luck.
Must be a Y-Block. The rust blaster won't hurt-but may not help either.
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this issue. I loosened the nut and nothing. At that point in my build I left well enough alone. Once I get my cooling system operational I will be able to turn my attention to timing (and carb tuning). This info will definitely help.

Had to be a Y-Block. Well placed explosives or latching it to a crane while pounding on it may help. Sorry, don't mean to be a smart-a$$ but this is a well known issue .
It won't hurt to try blaster. I think I eventually got it to move with a BFH and a wood block but I took my time.
Went to the truck today to mess with the distributor. Here is what I found.
I totaly remove the nut and clamp and could see very slight movement. I then went to my manual and on pag 103 was a blow up of my distributor.
What I realized was that the reason it would not move is because the governor body is held with this nut and clamp and stud . I would believe that the 2 piece clamp that holds the governor body to the distributor is what I have to losen.. I have put a picture of this in my albul titled distributor. You can see that right above the word lockwasher near the bottom of the shaft, there is a place for the stuc to go thru, hence, it will not turn. I am attempting to get that diagrame in this post, but I may not be sucessful.I
Yea, Bobby. I am glad I had the shop manual with pictures. I had never seen that set-up before on a distributor. All the ones I work on back in the day, did not have governors. so that was new to me.
Learn something every day on this project, That is what makes it great.
