I found a 1979 2 wheel drive 8' long bed steep side in fair shape. It looks a lot different than the short bed step side.
Welcome to FTE
Flareside = Ford / A Stepside is a Chevrolet/GMC / Dunno what a steep side is.
8' Flareside introduced in 1956, used thru 1979. After FoMoCo introduced Styleside pickups in 1957, Flareside sales dropped to almost nothing.
Most dealers didn't carry them in stock, most didn't want to take them in trade, either...because they were very hard to sell. Most buyers didn't want them, due to their limited bed space.
Most were sold as fleet vehicles, which were driven into the ground, so not all that many have survived today.
Not when you consider all the Stylesides available. Lotta Dentsides in WA.
2010 10 day road trip: Flew into Sea-Tac and rented a car. Drove to Anacortes (ferry to Friday Harbor), then Anacortes to Sedro-Wooley - Twisp - Brewster - Coulee Dam - Pasco - The Gorge on the WA side - Olympia - Seattle.
"She who must be obeyed" did most of the driving while I looked at the scenery, the old rolling piles of misery scenery, that is. Stopped counting Dents when I reached 131!
There's a rare 1956 Ford COE tow truck in Twisp, along with a 1930 Model AA flatbed mounted atop a sign 20' off the ground. In Brewster, there's an ancient AC Mack Bulldog parked in a shed with old farm equipment.

I hear ya, but... here in Rhode Island... Seeing a Dent side is a surprise.
A long bed flareside would be very unusual. I have not seen one in many years in this area. I owned a 61 F250 long bed Flareside for a few years. I use to get lots of comments mostly from farmers.
I think it would be a neat truck to restore. They look kinda weird sometimes though. I am building one now, 75 f-250 4x4, and i'm putting an 8 foot flareside box on that was taken off in 74 when new and stored in a warehouse in new york state. I also did a 7.3 idi diesel conversion, and it's a dually now. You never see any flaresides around my area, and very rarely do you see a longbed come up for sale anywhere.
I got one!!..... it's just in pieces at the moment. It's scheduled to be painted at the end of this month. It won't see the roads till spring. Everyone refuses to call these things rare, but I hardly see them even on the internet (someone will probably prove me wrong).
there was a blue 78 long bed flairside on the local craigslist here not too long ago. if i had the cash i would have grabbed it because its still a dent, but its just a little bit different then most of them
Thanks, I can't wait to drive it again. It's been apart for about 3 years I think (I would fade in and out of motivation). the truck overall wasn't horrible, but the old man that owned it took a paintbrush to it with whatever shade of red he had. So when I bought it, it started out as just a simple repaint. Next thing I know body panels are off and it's in a million pieces...
