My mom has a 2001 f150 with a 5.0. Had never had any problems with it till this week. She says it wont click or anything. When she tries to start it, the power door locks go to locking & unlocking. She said the battery is good. I figured probably the starter. She lives about 2 1/2 hours from me. I figured I would go down there and take the starter off and have it checked or rebuilt. Anybody ever had their power locks to go to moving when you try to start the truck. Also, when she turns the key on, her dash lights come on just like normal.Just wont turn over or click or anything. Any input would be appreciated.
I would put a charge into the battery to make sure it is fully charged. Then test your fusible links in the positive cables and also the main connection area for corrosion in the fusible link cables. If those are good check the starter relay and finally the starter. If battery is low of charge charge it and have the Alternator tested if the cables and all are good. You may need to get them tested after charging the battery at a parts store. They can't tell you if you have a bad fusible link. You will have to test for it with a VOM. Reseasl the test areas to keep corrosion out.
Thank you for the advice Tiger. If it is the starter, are there a reason her power locks goes up & down when she tries to start it? Also, the starter relay, is it on the starter or on the firewall?
Right rear in engine compartment. Low voltage does strange things to the Fob convenience stuff. Opening the drivers door wakes things up. There are times when a water leak can cause all kinds of grief in the cab especially under the windshield to the Fuses or Gem crating havock to the operation of things. If you notice water or wet floor look out.
