Do ALL 7.3 Excursions have a Glow Plug Control Module? Someone in another thread said all excursions have a GPCM. I was thinking only California models had them.
Mine (2000) does not, could it have been possible for the previous owner to change it out to a GPR only? If this was possible, I would think everyone would do it since the relay is cheaper than a new module.
All 7.3 Excursions had the GPCM. Yes, some people have changed the GPCM to a GPR... I don't know how the PCM reacts to it; what wiring needs to be done; etc.
CSIPSD (Joe) has done this on one of his vehicles already.... he could give you the nuts and bolts of the swap.

Can someone chime in on this?
How about the SAME someone (me) chiming and reiterating, ALL 7.3L PSD Excursions came with Glow Plug Control Modules!
And again I'll state, there are NO California model 7.3L PSD Excursions. ALL 7.3L PSD Excursions are the same, UNLIKE the F250/F350 7.3L PSD trucks.
Those trucks had California prepped models that included a GPCM instead of a GPR.

I was just following up on this Stew. I did several searches and evidently it is not a common swap. I guess I now know of only three that exist. Mine and Joe's two. For some reason I find that odd. I never doubted you for a moment, second opinions never hurt either.
To top it off, I even have a GPR with a shunt, that is fairly odd as well.
I have said it before and will say it again, I'm totally new to this diesel thing. I'm just trying to edumacate myself as much as possible. I guess i'll have to buy into the fact I have a rare EX that has had the GPCM swapped.
Now, my next question is which PCM should a 2000 Ex have from the factory? How do I determine what PCM I have now? It is my understanding that the PCM has to be swapped when the GPCM is swapped.
