Does anyone know why there is a small hose going from the degas bottle to radiator? It connects to the left of the upper radiator hose. I snapped it off while trying to remove the hose.
Picked up a brass hose fitting today (3/8"pipe thread & 3/8"hose bibb). I drilled a 5/8" hole where the plastic hose bibb broke off. The brass fitting cut its own threads into the plastic. I put J-B Weld on the threads and tightened the fitting. I put a little more J-B Weld around the fitting where it meets the plastic tank. Oh, I almost forgot. Before drilling the hole I filed the plastic to clean it and to rough it up so the J-B Weld would adhere to the tank. Letting the J-B Weld cure over night. Will test it tomorrow to see how well it holds.
I would be cautious of drill filings in the degas bottle... you definitely don't want those running through your cooling system and plugging oil or egr coolers!
Accident waiting to happen. Any time you use JB weld on a critical part especially where water contacts your asking for trouble. I got tired of the plastic failure prone radiator and went with aluminum. Fool proof now. plastic has a tendency to crack as you are aware of. Replace with new or sooner or later it will fail. JB Weld thats funny. No disrespect but it really is funny.
Thanks for your suggestions and ideas. The first attempt leaked. So, I tried a different approach. I bought a 5/8" rubber washer and 5/8" flat washer and cut the outer diameter so they would fit on the radiator between the upper radiator hose and the fan shroud. I then screwed the brass hose barb into the plastic tank on the radiator. Did this Friday afternoon. So far no leaks.
However, I am not 100% pleased with this repair. Not sure how well it will hold up over time. So, I am going to custom make a fitting will include a flange and rubber washer on the inside of the radiator tank as well as a rubber washer and flat washer on the outside of the tank. When I figure out how to upload picture to FTE, I'll include them.

No offense taken. Have used JB Weld successfully on other applications so I thought I'd give it a try.
