Great New Tool -- oops maybe not :)

Hi,

Popular Mechanics has a section on the best tool tech from SEMA. But, there seems to be some confusion.

One tool actually is kind of interesting. It's called Unijack, and it's a combo hydraulic bottle jack and jackstand. Not such a big deal for trucks, but it could be handy for unibody work where there are limited spots for jacking. Supposed to be available in 4 and 6 tons.

Anyway, the link took me to a tool site that didn't have it. Did a little googling, and there were several notes for a 3 ton version.

Went to the sears site, and it said 'PRODUCT DISCONTINUED' !!

So, either this is so new that the data hasn't filtered down -- or it was junk.

We'll see -- I could actually use a deal like that.

Powerbuilt® 3 Ton Jack & Jack Stand - 1160455 | Tractor Supply Company

I've seen them around for awhile, I always wondered why they weren't more popular because they seem like a bright idea to replace the crappy scissors jacks that come with cars.

Thanks for the link. I'm still wondering a bit. The report I saw was about new products ( 4 and 6 ton).

I still think that it's a great idea, but the implemetation might be a bit off. Did some more searching around, and this model seems to be available at TSC and Amazon. (Much cheaper at TSC!). The reviews at Amazon said it was pretty tall and often leaked.

Thanks again,

hj

That would save me carrying around a trolley jack and a jack stand. The trolley jack, however, allows for a lower clearance.

In the reviews it seems everyone likes them, BUT ! seems to be problems with quality (leaks).
