Id'ing a possible FE Bigblock
Well I just got another truck. I picked up a 78 F350, It has a flatbed on it now , but you can see where it had a dump box on it originally. It has a pto, and the truck was has a factory gvw of 10,000lbs. It was supposed to have a 400 in it but someone spent the time to put in an FE. Once we got it home I looked at the block numbers and the intake and it appears to be a 428. It may even be a police or cobra jet. (any hints on how else to tell would be appreciated) . The best part of all of that is I only had to pay $20.00 for it.
SCORE!!!!!
On top of that the guy threw in a 75 F250 parts truck with it.

Ford casting numberson the FE don't mean squat. Trust me on this. Try a search on the FE forum and this topic is amply covered. The short of it is this: Using the "dowel" method check your stroke...if it measures 4" its your 428, or possibly a 410. 3.75" is a 390. This is the only accurate method without dropping the pan and id'ing the crank. 90% of the time you'll have a 360 but maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones.
