Man what a JOKE!!! A guy at work has one, and besides it being fairly ugly, the "Z71" package includes plastic fender flares. What really gets me is that the tires it has from the factory don't even stick out of the stock fenders!! So what is the point of these flares from the factory...??? It just looks really lame.
On top of that it's got some el cheapo brand street tires. C'mon Chevy get real, put offroad tires on an offroad truck. If you're using fender flares, you'd better have something big enough to go under there.
Yes these are the tires that this truck came with from the factory, nothing has been altered on this truck, with the exception of the exhaust...puke...
Now on a better note, my friend's new Ford Offroad package equipped truck actually has good tires from the factory, and has decent "beginner" offroad options.
If you go Ford you get equipment, if you go GM you get a sticker...period
Sorry for venting, and I'm sure I'm going to get a bunch of negative feedback, but it just about makes me sick that all of these teens want Chevy trucks. It's like reliability, and capability don't meant anything to them. They just like them because all of their friends like them... atleast that's the reason here! What's really funny is when you ask them what size their engine is in inches, and not liters, and what's even funnier is when you ask them what makes a Vortech engine different from a normal engine. Or how about when they're not even sure if it's a V8 or V6?
LOL Bring it on...

I have a cousin who is a die hard GM guy. He can't even stand the Z-71 trucks. What does the Z-71 stand for anyways? Does it have anything to do with Z being the last letter in the alphabet?
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
Well maybe the guy at work is BS'n me big time, I know it's not an aftermarket addon, because I've seen WAY too many of these trucks with those same flares, even on the lot. On the lot almost all of the Z71's have flares on 'em... Maybe it's just a Texas thing?? LOL
Take it easy...

Well, Chevy folks ain't ever been acused of bein too bright. What I hate is when you ask them what they have under the hood and they feed you that "4300" or "5300" bull. That's all they know! They don't know what it means, but they proudly say "I got a 5300! What's that pounding knocky sound?"
Course, once again, you have to remember, these people think there is something special about having RPO codes on the side of the truck. Idiots...
What does the Z-71 stand for anyways? Does it have anything to do with Z being the last letter in the alphabet?
Z71 really doesn't mean anything, just a matter of chance that it happened to get the 71. It's just the GM RPO code for the offroad package, just like Z28 is the RPO code for the sport performance package in Camaros. All the packages like that have a Z out front. Just dumb luck.
Just wait a few years and you'll see the RPO codes written all up the side of Chevy trucks. You'll know every option on the dang thing (until it rusts and it's all indeciferable of course)
ok, i agree with everything here except for two rather tiny points.
1) the fender flare- yes, it looks retarded because the tire does not come close to filling it out. then again, have you driven behind an explorer with the Eddie Bauer package? even worse than the chevies.
2) The liter vs. ci issue- Well, there's a reason for that. When's the last time you've seen badging on the side of the car that says the ci? that hasn't been around for a while. honestly, if you were to ask the same age kids in the good ole days what size engine they had in liters, they probably wouldn't know. it's the same difference, just swapped in this day and age.
As for the question of what the Z71 package comes with:
Bilstein shocks
Skid Plates
Wheels
Stickers
Flares (option)
Keep in mind, you're talking to a die-hard Ford fan here. I just think if we're going to poke fun we should be fair.
I'm not,nor will I ever, defend the general, but we don't have much room to complain about factory tires.
My '01 F-250 off-road package consists of: steering stabilizer, fuel tank and transfer case skid plates (why yes, they are metal), sliding rear window (don't understand that one, especially on a CC) and of course the sticker. Not a bad deal, but to me an off road package should contain something that makes it more off road capable than the rest. A bigger tire option, and some heavier springs would suit me fine.
