I don't mind snow (in its season), but I'd llike to figure out what I'm doing for tires first. I replaced fronts only (worn to the cords on the inside corners) with some cheap tires until I'm sure the alignment is fixed, figuring I'd buy all new next year. Looking at them now, I don't think the rears are good enough for snow this year.

I too have to find some new tyres before the real snow flys

Well, that didn't work. The snow came yesterday anyway. Fortunately it didn't stick very much. (None in town)

I've had better weekends. Broke two caliper mounting bracket bolts (still no idea what someone put on them - looks like some kind of glue on the threads) on my commuter, and the transmission in the Excursion decided to act up. It's at a shop now.

Sorry to hear that Andrew. All most all the Mfg's use red or blue thread locker on the bracket mounting bolts. Color/strength depends on the torque setting.

I've seen the blue on bolts before. It still seemed to be a little gritty to me. This was red, and looked like someone had allowed plastic to melt into the threads. Ah well. I could live with the bolts snapping if it wasn't so hard to get replacements. All the parts places sell the brackets, and they all sell the slide/glide pins and bolts, but it seems no one but dealers carry the larger bolts to hold the calipers on. Being that this is a 2002 Saturn, it's getting hard to find parts like that.

The O/D light started flashing Saturday on the way home. I pulled a P0743 code from the OBD port with the Torque app. Took it to a trans shop yesterday and their computer pulled several codes.

P1000 - OBDII System Checks Incomplete
P0741 - Torque Converter Clutch System Stuck Off
P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Fault
P1702 - Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) Circuit Intermittent Malfunction
P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Fault
P0743 - TCC System Electrical Fault

He said it took a while for the torque converter to lock, and would only stay locked for a second or so.

Looks like you're looking at a rebuild. Been through that more than once myself. It'll cost you a bit unfortunately.

Gosh, I don't want to hear that. I think he was starting with the TRS because the voltages were wrong. I'm hoping it is a minor electrical problem that can be fixed with a new switch.
