05 F-150 5.4 While driving truck will seem to go into a "limp mode" for few secs, rpms drop, wrench and battery light will flash just for a split second then go off. After a few seconds truck powers back up again and runs like nothing ever happened. If slowing to a stop and it happens, it is enough to kill the engine, otherwise at highway speeds it just loses power. new plugs, new fuel filter, air filter, throttle body has been cleaned. It seems to be dependent on the outside temp, I mean if it is colder outside it will do it a lot more. took it to dealership 3 hours and 200 dollars later they give me the keys back and say truck is fine. Truck will not store a code. any ideas???
I think the wrech indicates a problem with the throttle by wire system. It could be an intermitent problem with the throttle position sensor or the sensor conected to the gas pedal.
Sorry, what i meant to say is when it happens, battery light and and the engine light will flash briefly. Same lights that come on when you have the key turned on, but not starting the engine. makes me think that it is an ignition issue, but why only be affected by cold weather? Obd II port and 12v outlet also lose power briefly when this happens, thats why I cant get any codes out of it, it's almost like the pcm just shuts down for split second. Or, possibly a voltage spike, because i've also noticed that at night the headlights will get brighter for split second, as well as radio get louder. As said earlier, new plugs, fuel filter, air filter, battery, and now it has new crank pos sensor, as well as new tps sensor. All wires, cables and grounds look good.
