Velvet ride shackles were thankfully discontinued years ago. Some folks had good luck with them. It felt good knowing the set on my rig were melted down for recycling.

Yeah, I looked them up - the design seems weak for a truck of this size/weight especially considering the extreme workload that gets thrown at them... The name sounds good but I would be unsettled knowing my truck is hammering on that rubber isolator.

I've had the VR's on my truck for probably 10 years and no issues whatsoever. I have another set I got new but never put on my other truck before I sold it. I have no issue running them again, they worked beautifully and you're the first person I've heard say anything negative about them.
Well Jim like I said. Some people had good luck with them. Your one of those. I'm one of the ones who inherited a worn out set and the problems associated with the fact they were worn out for quite some time.
I did an RSK and new 1" over stock leafs on the front of my truck and 4" lift block in the back to level it out. I was told it was the only way to go and would make a world of difference on the ride quality of the truck.
I wasn't all that happy with it and it might have made it a touch better but I didn't notice anything.
Then I was looking for tires for 17" rims and thought about going to 20" rims but was told with the 37s I had plans on running that I'd get an even better ride with the 17" rims as there was more side wall to give then the 20" rims. So I saved money and kept my 17s.
So now I'm ridding on basically a 6" lift over all and the truck still rides like a log covered wagon.
Needless to say I still haven't found a girl that like to ride in the truck.
HMMMMMMMM maybe its me they don't like to ride next too?
I have sky rsk and bilsteins 5125 shocks.if u do rsk.buy the pittman arm.i did not and will be soon.
My wife was pregnant and i had to make it better.she was pleasently happy.its still a truck but im very happy.i have stock front springs and poly bushings.added one leaf and a shim out back.
Ha, no doubt. I'm currently watching Craigslist for a 100 gal transfer tank, that'll provide some weight to smooth her out a bit. I'm going to talk with the guys at sky tomorrow and see where it goes.
I'm in south Salem, pretty close to
Ya. The 4" block in my truck is aftermarket - there's a 2" ford block with the horn on the side in there as well. I just replaced the 4" blocks because the ones that were on it were all chewed up from the previous owner and a lot of axle wrap (no ladder bars). But I added a nice set of procomps at the same time.
Someone must have put that 2" factory block in the rear. Like Evan mentioned, the 350 4x4s came with 4" blocks.
Any lift spring or add-a-leaf you put in is gonna ride worse than a stock spring...
oh trust me, I'm living out that reality every day. I called Sky off road, left a message and emailed them. still havent heard back, I guess we'll see how that pans out... other than the shackle being pre-built I don't see why a guy can't just weld-up a shackle and put SD springs in. I looked at their setup and unless I'm missing something there isn't much to it...
Whatever you decide to go with, I'd definitely consider using poly spring bushings! I just did my front and gonna do the back as soon as I get a chance. Handles better with the polys.
Yep, I'm happy with the poly bushings on my front springs. Haven't had the time or money to do the rears yet, but I might go a different direction with the rear in the future...
