Fuel Pressure Problem after Pump Install
1996 F250 460 5 speed, 114,000 miles 2WD...
Ordered and Installed the Spectra rear fuel tank kit which included tank, pump, hanger and sending unit.
Put about 300 miles on this truck since I installed the new tank and pump. A couple of days ago I was driving along about 55 mph and started noticing a significant power loss. Felt like it was running out of gas. Switched to the front (original tank) and it instantly corrected and ran perfect. Rear gauge showed 1/4 tank. Put gas in it making sure the gauge wasn't wrong. Still ran terrible on rear tank.
This morning I checked the fuel pressure on both tanks, both showed about 32 psi at the rail. Drove it around for about 30 minutes or so and it started to lose power on the rear tank, not as bad as the first time I noticed. Brought it home and checked the pressure, 32 psi on front at idle and about 28 psi on the rear at idle. So there does seem to be a pressure loss after the truck runs for a while.
So what do you all think?
Did I get a faulty pump from spectra or is it possible I did something wrong on the install?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated...
My plan is to pull the bed off in a couple of days, check it all for leaks, bent lines, replace the filter, and replace the front sending unit. The rear pump is still under warranty so may just have it replaced too.
Thanks
Pulled the bed to make this whole ordeal a little easier...(after this I have to diagnose the sending unit on the front tank)....Anyway, it looks like both of the fuel lines were kinked on top of the tank right before they connect to the fuel pump. I'm thinking/hoping that this was causing the pressure loss after it warms up. Guessing the pump was trying to hard to push gas through the reduced opening in the kinked line. I'll get it back together and update again.
