Engine Backfiring on startup

Engine Backfiring on startup
If i let my excursion sit for a couple of days then try starting it, it will crank over but not fire. I wait a few seconds and try again and it will make a backfire sound and start up and smoke will come out of the exhaust.
Any ideas whats causing this, i have 160000 miles on the truck.

Yeah i'm gonna try changing the plugs, i'll let you guys know if it solves the problem.
