I have an area of rust that needs to be taken care of and I honestly don't know how to tackle it in this part of the truck. How do you all suggest I go about fixing it? My normal approach would be to cut it out and replace with new metal but I don't think I'm up for this. I'm afraid of what I might find once I pull the windshield out too because it looks like the rust has started to creep some.
A little about the truck. The wife bought if for me as a surprise for my return home after this deployment (gotta admit she is a keeper). She decided on this one for me since it is the exact truck my dad had when I was growing up. 78 F150 with a 460 heart transplant other than that it is just as normal as they come. The wife said there is a small leak around the back glass as well so it looks like all new rubber has made it onto the to do list already. I'm sure there is going to be more once I actually get home and get to take a look at her.
Ive got the same problem on my 79 and I plan on shaving the drip rails and replacing any bad metal. Search this forum and there should be pictures and drawings of how the roof and drip rails are constructed so you have an idea of what youre getting into
Here's a diagram of the drip rail/roof section so you know what you're dealing with.
Actually, yours doesn't look that bad, but you never know what the paint is hiding, so i'd start there, get it down to bare metal and see what you're working with, it may not be as bad as you think.
First, sand all the paint off on and around the area. It may not be too bad
Thanks. That was going to be my first step. Hopefully that is all that I need to do. Good luck with the rust on your truck.

Btw nice truck!
Thanks man. I think my ole lady did a pretty good job picking this one out. I appreciate the digging and finding that diagram for me. The connection out here on the boat is crap so it would have taken me forever to find it.
