I have a few random questions about my 1986 F-250. It is 2 wheel drive with a 351W, C6, and dual fuel tanks with the long bed. Not much of that matters to the questions though.
1. I need a new bed for the truck. I am not real worried about lines or how great it looks. I just am wondering what years I can put on it without having to cut anything major, weld, or anything more drastic. I am fine with wiring, that is not a problem.
2. How do I remove the head light and windshield wiper ***** from the dash. It looks like I would just pull them off, but I want to be sure before I just yank them off.
3. How in the heck do I set the stinking digital clock in the center of the dashboard? It has three buttons on the left that are for time, e time, and date, then two little round buttons on the right. Very frustrating having to remember that it is 25 minutes slow for half the year, and 35 minutes fast for the other half.
Thanks for all the help guys. I have had this truck for less than a year and there are these few little aggravations that I would like to get fixed.
There are a few ***** out there that use socket-headed screws to hold them on. I have two of them, but don't know where they came from. So, if Ken's approach doesn't work look for little bitty allen screws.
On the clock, there are two different styles, and I'm not sure which is which. But, one style uses pull-out buttons on the date and time to allow setting. Pull one of the buttons out and then use the two little buttons to set the date/time. For instance, if you pull the Date button out the left little button sets the month and the right button sets the date. BUT, I don't know if you have that style so don't break the buttons!
The other style, IIRC, requires you to hold the date/time button in while pushing the little buttons to set. However, something in the back of my mind says you have to set the date before you can set the time.
I don't know if this was stated already but about the bed 80-86 should work but I have seen up to an 97 bed on these trucks the difference being rounded out fender wells tailgate lettering and lights everything else should swap right over. My favorite is the good old steel flatbed usually found on craigslist will fit on most years of the big 3 and takes a beat down not always a direct fit but well worth it if your working the truck. Best wishes hope you figure it out.
