Ok, I got this 93 Bronco missing the ECM. I've got it ordered. I was looking at the harness and I believe this Bronco has the remote "igniter" or ignition control module that mounts near the ECM. I see NO mounting holes or the heat sink.
Any ideas???
It would have to have one.........right???
I've seen them on the distributer before, but not remote mounted.
I was looking at Fordparts.com and they were showing general pics, but they're not that good!
From the drivers hood hinge, below the cruise control, two screws mount the heat sink to the fender, two hex head mount the ICM to the heat sink on my 94. The ICM connector has all the wires in one row.
Yup. Ford moved the TFI/ICM from the distributor casting to the heat sink in the driver's inner fender in 1992 where it stayed until the end of production. This was in an effort to reduce the number of heat-related failures of the module. (Go figure!)
Sounds like someone attempted a carburetor retrofit (read as going backwards technologically) on that Bronco. That would be the ONLY reason I could see for removing the ECM and ignition electronics. The heat sink from any F-series between 92-96 will be identical to the one you are missing.
Great!! I found out where it mounts, but no ICM module or heatsink. I guess I'll be going to the boneyard tomorrow! Yea, the story the lady gave me was....she was driving it but it was loading up and black smoke coming from the tailpipe. She took it to some schmuck shop and they started swapping parts and lost the original ECM out of it. There are three ECM's on the front seat...2 won't even fit (plugs are different) and the other is from a boneyard and has the yellow marker written on it "95 E250 4.9"!!! I believe that's a van with a 300 six!! Anyway, she has put a bunch of money in it (receipts). Even found a receipt for a $2000 transmission job a couple years old. Personally, I don't think the ECM was the problem in the first place. The cat is removed, so I guess I need to see if the O2 sensor is there! All in all, I think I did pretty good! Even my wife said after I told her she wants $600 for it, "What are you waiting for???" I'll try to keep ya posted! Thanks for the info!!
A 95 E250 4.9 is indeed a 1995 3/4 ton Econoline with a 300 and will NOT work in the Bronco considering the fact that Ford discontinued the 300 in the Bronco the year before (1992).
On a positive note, a rebuilt E4OD is a good thing assuming it was done right. They cost more than that these days for a decent rebuild.
O2 sensor should be upstream of the cat in the Y-pipe where the two arms converge.
When I was having transmission problems the shop said it was electrical but could not find a PCM. I found about 40 at the junk yard but none of them had matching numbers. I found ECMTOGO on the Internet and the owner said the numbers must match. They repaired mine but I remember they have some for those not repairable. You might want to get your vin number and call them.
Went to the "U Pull It" yard and found the heat sink with Ignition Control Module on it. From the numbers I Googled, I think this ICM will work for the Bronco. Ford part # E7DF-12A297-A2A. It's the gray one. Found an ECM at Autozone, will be here tomorrow!
