So I've worked on a few diesel trucks (not Fords ) and noticed that their fuel tanks are basically a round drum with a fill hole. But any gas vehicle I've worked on has a more complex tank with vapor lines and special vented caps, etc.
Is it possible to use a diesel tank on a gas truck? I'm thinking of modifying my dump bed, but the gas tank is in the way. So I was going to make a custom tank to fit my needs.
Any thoughts or reasons not to do this?
73-87 GM trucks had outboard tanks, and nothing catastrophic ever happened. In fact, Dateline rigged a truck to explode, which resulted in GM filing a lawsuit. You should be fine.
Yeah, I hadn't thought of the gauge issue. I'll have to think about that...
I may just get a 38 gallon rear tank and just do away with the front one altogether. That would probably be easier anyway.
